Well done to all the students who passed their grading over the past couple of weeks. All your determination and hard work paid off. Also congratulations to Matt Bexon on achieving 'Deshi' status....and to James Newton on being awarded 'Graduate of the day'...A huge thank you to the instructors for giving up their time to sit on the panel of judges - Joseki - and for their commitment in teaching the students...Hard work at times but the end results speak volumes...Ossu!

We currently have a 'Student of the Month' where a junior or intermediate is awarded a certificate of achievement for attendance, etiquette etc and adorns a white belt with a black stripe for the month. However this now will be altered after the summer to a split length 2 tone belt, colour tbc.We now have a new title added to our listings known as a 'Deshi' - meaning disciple or trainee of the art assisting with the junior grades & new starters. This position is designated to an adult at 4th kyu (purple) or above over 18 years of age. In the future they will train towards and become an instructor. Therefore they will wear the white belt with a black stripe while on the tatami with the children and change to their appropriate obi when they resume training in the senior category...

"They say Japan was made by a sword. They say the old gods dipped a coral blade into the ocean, and when they pulled it out four perfect drops fell back into the sea, and those drops became the islands of Japan."
