Student of the month.

We currently have a 'Student of the Month' where a junior or intermediate is awarded a certificate of achievement for attendance, etiquette etc and they get to wear a black belt for the month. However the student who achieves the award no longer wears a black belt but is issued witha sleeve clip to sew onto the sleeve of their gi.We now have a new title added to our listings known as a 'Deshi' - meaning disciple or trainee of the art assisting with the junior grades & new starters. This position is designated to an adult at 4th kyu (purple) or above over 18 years of age. In the future they will train towards and become an instructor. Therefore they will wear the white belt with a black stripe while on the tatami with the children and change to their appropriate obi when they resume training in the senior category...

Sunday July 20th saw the academy host a seminar with the legendary  Renshi John Lovatt 6th Dan.The day consisted of drawing and cutting of the tachi (sword) with sequences covering standing and kneeling techniques. All that attended were totally enthralled by Renshi John Lovatts smooth and concise technique of Iaido, along with his narrative tales of his days training under great sensei's.A fun but very interesting day. Many thanks to Renshi John for his time to take the seminar

"They say Japan was made by a sword. They say the old gods dipped a coral blade into the ocean, and when they pulled it out four perfect drops fell back into the sea, and those drops became the islands of Japan."
